Westview Public School Wins Provincial Award
The Board was excited to learn that the administration, staff, and students at Westview Public School were honoured with a $10,000 school nutrition award. Westview Public School has a strong history of supporting school nutrition programs in creative and meaningful ways and their strength was recognized by the Mosaic School Nutrition Challenge. The grant will support Westview in purchasing some new equipment and focusing on Truth and Reconciliation through nutrition programs.
Promising Enrolment Trends and Projections
Superintendent Neil Finch presented, to the Board, an enrolment report that outlined current enrolment trends and projections for Sept 2021. In the current year, COVID caused many families to disconnect from school across the province but recent trends in SRPSD indicate that those families are returning to school. Although some high schools did not experience growth in the last months, most elementary schools showed stable or growing enrolment as families return to school. Another positive trend is that several of SRPSD’s 33 schools are currently at or above their projected enrolment for the fall. It is exciting to see families returning to experience the care, learning and excellence in SRPSD schools.
First Nation and Metis Education in the Spotlight
Trustees were engaged in learning about two specific programs that are expanding in SRPSD. The division is honoured to partner with Metis Nation-Saskatchewan in preserving and revitalizing Michif language and culture in PreK and K programs. The Metis Nation Saskatchewan will provide support, expertise and resources while SRPSD early learning staff will provide knowledge, vibrant early learning environments and strong community connection. St Louis Public School and Queen Mary Public School staff are preparing to welcome students into the program. These two schools are also the latest SRPSD schools to be included in the expansion of the Following Their Voices program. The FTV program brings focus, funding and support for schools as they build communities where learning that is joyful, culture is celebrated and students have real choice for their future. St. Louis and Queen Mary will join Wesmor, Carlton, PACI, and Arthur Pechey in experiencing the FTV funding and support for students, staff and families.
The Board hopes this brief update can provide information and promote communication. If you want further details about the Board and its meetings, you can find information at this link SRPSD Board Information or under the “About Us” tab at www.srsd119.ca. You are also encouraged to contact your local trustee.
We look forward to the connection!
