Overview: Purpose:
Shelley Moore is a well-known advocate and educator in the field of inclusion, particularly in education. She works to promote the idea of inclusive practices that ensure all students, regardless of their backgrounds, abilities, or differences, can access and thrive in learning environments. Her purpose for engaging in work on inclusion is to foster equitable education by encouraging educators, schools, and communities to move beyond traditional models of teaching and learning. She advocates for creating environments where all students feel valued, supported, and empowered to succeed. This often involves challenging existing systems and biases, emphasizing personalized learning, and promoting collaboration across diverse groups. Through her work, Shelley Moore also focuses on shifting the narrative around inclusion, moving away from a deficit model (which views students with differences as “lacking”) toward a strength-based approach that recognizes the unique contributions and potential of every individual. Her contributions aim to raise awareness about the importance of inclusive practices and to support schools in making real, impactful changes in how they educate and serve all students.
