Educational Support Teachers
- The Educational Support Teacher (EST) offers supports to address the diverse learning needs of all students. By working with administrators and classroom teachers to understand student needs, the EST teaches to individual student strengths and supports the learning success of students requiring intensive supports. For students with intensive needs or extensive learning differences, the EST collaborates with all members of the school based team including the principal, vice principal, parent(s), classroom teacher(s), educational associates and student (when appropriate) to develop an Inclusion and Intervention Plan (IIP). The EST supports teachers in a variety of ways depending on the teacher’s experience and expertise in writing IIPs and understanding of making adaptations for specific student strengths and needs. The EST meets with classroom teachers regularly to review and assess the individual plan set out for each student in the IIP document. The EST meets with teachers, parents, administrators and central office staff during the IIP development process. The collaborative process extends throughout the year to communicate with families regarding student progress and to access and implement supports required by individual students.
