What is a “Polar Bear Club?”
Studies show that regular opportunities for play and physical activity outdoors improves mood, attention, and overall fitness. In Saskatchewan, it is often a challenge when the temperature dips below -30 degrees Celsius . . . brr!
According to the school cold weather policy, when the weather dips below -30 degrees Celsius, students are kept indoors for recess. As a member of the Vickers Polar Bear Club, students have the opportunity to go outside for recess when it is an inside recess day to play and embrace the cold Saskatchewan weather!
Over 100 Grade 3-6 students have signed permission for the Polar Bear Club and it has been a huge success! Thank you to the staff volunteers who take our students out for fresh air and physical activity!
