Purpose:

Play is a crucial component of mental health and development. Participants will experience and explore the connections between experiential play-based learning and mental health.

Learning Intentions:

Enhance Teacher Awareness: Increase educators’ understanding of how play supports social-emotional learning in the classroom, recognizing its impact on students’ academic success, mental health, and overall well-being.

Mental Health and Well-being: Equip educators with play-based strategies to identify and address the social and emotional needs of students, thereby contributing to their emotional resilience and mental well-being.

Skill Development: Provide educators with practical tools and techniques to cover curricular components while integrating SEL principles into their teaching practices, including effective communication, empathy, conflict resolution, and self-regulation skills.

Classroom Climate: Help educators create a safe, respectful, and emotionally supportive classroom atmosphere where students feel valued and empowered to express themselves authentically.

Success Criteria:

Educators will feel empowered to more intentionally facilitate play-based strategies that impact social-emotional learning, teaching students to become emotionally intelligent, empathetic, and prepared for success.
