Purpose: The supports and strategies that contribute to an inclusive classroom not only benefit those with identified additional needs, but also enhance the learning and participation of all learners in the class.
Setting up an inclusive classroom environment is a practical way of providing support for all learners by optimizing the physical and social environment of the classroom. Inclusive structures, approaches and routines will support student engagement and motivation. Inclusive classroom practices will reduce the need for individual supports which will increase learner independence and reduce complexity in classroom management.
Learning Intentions: Based on Shelley Moore’s work, we would like to propose the idea of moving away from individual supports, (of course not in all cases) towards a more universal approach that is aimed at a few but beneficial to all.
Success Criteria: -walk away with concrete ideas, planning tools and strategies to designed to support the needs of all students
