In the spirit of reconciliation, Saskatchewan Rivers Public School Division recognizes the importance of Louis Riel Day on November 16th.
Louis Riel was a prominent political Metis leader and a founder of the province of Manitoba. He led two resistance movements, the Red River Resistance 1869-1870 and the North-west Resistance of 1885. He fought for Metis people’s rights and identity and is a heroic figure who is honoured on November 16th.
